To run MetaTrader 5 under Mac OS, you will need additional software, which is freely available: 

1. Wine is a free tool that enables users to run Windows applications on other operating systems. It’s important to note that Wine developers do not provide guarantees for stable operation, so certain features of the application may not work as expected.

2. To install MetaTrader 5 on Mac OS, you can use a free application called PlayOnMac. PlayOnMac is a Wine-based tool that streamlines and automates the installation process.

PlayOnMac installation

1. To install PlayOnMac, visit the official website at www.playonmac.com, navigate to the "Downloads" section, and click the download link for the program.

2. Once the DMG package is downloaded, open it from the "Downloads" folder on your system.

3. Next, the PlayOnMac initial setup window will appear. Click "Next" to proceed with installing the required components.

4. The first component is XQuartz, a program that enables the use of the X Window System on Mac OS. The X Window System provides standard tools and protocols to support graphical user interfaces in Unix-like operating systems. Note: if XQuartz is already installed or you prefer to skip the installation for now, click "Don't install XQuartz for the moment" or "I've downloaded the file myself," respectively.

5. XQuartz is installed in multiple stages. First, you need to read the important information in the "Read Me" section and agree to the license terms.

6. Before the installation begins, the macOS security system will prompt you to enter your account password.

7. Once the installation is complete, restart your Mac to apply the changes.

8. After rebooting your system, open PlayOnMac again from the setup file in the "Downloads" folder. This time, the program will prompt you to install the Windows fonts required for proper functionality.

9. Agree to the license terms and wait for the installation to finish. Afterward, the main PlayOnMac window will open, signaling that the program is ready for use.

Updating Wine

1. To update Wine to the latest version, go to "Tools" > "Manage Wine Versions" in the PlayOnMac top menu.

2. A window will appear showing the available Wine versions. Choose the latest one from the list.

3. Drag the selected Wine version to the right side of the window, and the installation process will begin.

Once the installation is complete, the latest Wine version will appear on the left side of PlayOnMac. You can now close this window and proceed with installing the MetaTrader 5 trading terminal.

MetaTrader 5 installation

1. After downloading MT5, run the setup file, and PlayOnMac will open it automatically.

2. The standard terminal installation process will then begin, including all of its stages.

3. Once the installation is complete, PlayOnMac will prompt you to create shortcuts for the MetaTrader 5 terminal components — the client terminal and the integrated MetaEditor MQL editor.

4. After creating the shortcuts, you can start using MetaTrader 5. To launch the terminal, simply double-click it in the PlayOnMac window.
